Welcome to Moving Forward Psychiatry

Moving Forward provides psychiatric services by our board certified nurse practitioner. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners are prepared to assess/evaluate and diagnose mental illness, as well as prescribe medications and therapeutic treatment for children and adults. All of our appointments are conducted virtually on a HIPAA compliant platform which allows us to improve access to care. Moving Forward's goal is to assist individuals and families heal and recover from the effects of mental illness.

Psychotic Disorders

A “psychotic disorder” is an umbrella term to describe multiple types of mental health conditions that involve a phenomenon called psychosis. Psychosis itself is characterized by an impaired relationship with reality, often including confusion, hallucinations, and delusions.  The symptoms of psychosis can vary between mental health disorders.  Read more

Anxiety

For people with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time. The symptoms can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, schoolwork, and relationships.

There are several types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and various phobia-related disorders.  Read more

Bipolar Disorders

Bipolar disorder is a brain disorder that causes changes in a person's mood, energy, and ability to function. People with bipolar disorder experience intense emotional states that typically occur during distinct periods of days to weeks, called mood episodes. These mood episodes are categorized as manic/hypomanic (abnormally happy or irritable mood) or depressive (sad mood). People with bipolar disorder generally have periods of neutral mood as well. Depression 

Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease your ability to function at work and at home.

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health disorder that some people develop after they experience or see a traumatic event. The traumatic event may be life-threatening, such as combat, a natural disaster, a car accident, or sexual assault. But sometimes the event is not necessarily a dangerous one. For example, the sudden, unexpected death of a loved one can also cause PTSD.  Read more

ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. ADHD also affects many adults. Symptoms of ADHD include inattention (not being able to keep focus), hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting) and impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought). I have been on this nursing journey for over two decades and am thankful for the experiences and education along the way.  Prairie View A&M University and the University of Texas Health Science Center led me to becoming an advanced practice provider.   The past 7 years working in psychiatry continues to fuel my passion for serving those affected by mental illness and my goal is to provide client-centered care.  Being a wife and boy-mom keeps me centered.
